Indianapolis Motor Speedway, also known as “The Brickyard,” is one
of the most historic venues in all of motorsports. The 2.5-mile oval put
on its first motorized event on August 14, 1909, which also happened to
be a motorcycle race. Now every August, motorcycle enthusiasts across
the globe unite at the speedway to participate in the celebration of
incredible speed and competition. In 2011, Indianapolis Motor Speedway
invited GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing and the Harley-Davidson
XR1200s featured in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series
to take part in the Red Bull Indianapolis GP weekend, and the
thundering twins were featured in their first doubleheader event weekend
alongside the stars of MotoGP. After successful runnings in 2011 and
2012, GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing is proud to bring the Harleys
back for a third straight year, with the thundering twins scheduled to
hit the bricks on the weekend of August 16-18, 2013.
In last year’s contest, Kyle Wyman
took the first of two races on the weekend. Wyman benefitted from a bit
of his own good luck -- and other riders’ misfortune -- as a pile-up on
lap six took out many of the front-runners. On Sunday, in front of a
solid race-day crowd, Tyler O’Hara was crowned victor of race two after
an impressive ten-lap shootout.
