BMW introduced its highly anticipated Boxer-powered roadster today in
Berlin, Germany, the 2014 BMW R nineT a tribute to 90 years of BMW
Motorrad technology. The project has been in the works for quite some
time, BMW teasing the public with its prototype Lo Rider Concept
back in November of 2008. The production model is a brash bike that’s
been pared down so the beauty of the Boxer engine isn’t hidden behind a
bunch of bodywork. The suspended engine serves as a stressed member of
the frame, cut-outs in the tank contribute to its sporty disposition, as
do its stacked dual cans, while spoked wheels speak to its heritage
side.
“The nineT pools together the genes from 90 years of BMW Motorrad and
its unique concept has been designed to keep customization fans happy,”
stated BMW press.
At the core of the project is an 1170cc air/oil cooled Boxer engine with
a 101mm bore and 73mm stroke. Considering the motorcycle is supposed to
“carry the brand values from 90 years of BMW Motorrad ingrained in it,”
sourcing a flat twin Boxer that has helped define BMW’s motorcycle
division was only fitting. The engines valves are arranged radially in
the combustion chamber and timing is controlled by chain-driven double
overhead camshafts (DOHC) in each cylinder. The valves are “actuated by
cam followers of a very lightweight design, making them ideal for high
revving, while lightweight hemispherical shims are used for valve
clearance compensation,” said BMW Motorrad. The engine design is lauded
for delivering healthy doses of torque while emitting an unmistakable
exhaust note. Power numbers are claimed to be 110 hp @ 7750 rpm and peak
torque of 88 lb-ft @ 6000 rpm. To read more click here

"Built by Bikers. for Bikers"
5 From Pa. Die as Motorcycles, SUV Crash Near Md.
A local coroner on Sunday identified five Pennsylvania residents as the
victims of a horrific crash involving two motorcycles and an SUV near
the Maryland state line.
All four people traveling on the motorcycles died, as did Marjorie
Smith, 68, of Johnstown, who was a passenger in the SUV, according to
Franklin County coroner Jeffrey Conner.
The motorcyclists were Douglas Hoffer Jr., 32, of Quarryville; Colleen
Nesbitt, 27, of Gap; and David Russell, 67, and Michelle Russell, 53,
both of Mount Joy.
The crash happened Saturday afternoon in the south-central Pennsylvania
community of Washington Township, not far from Waynesboro.
According to Conner, the northbound SUV crossed the center line on Fort
Ritchie Access Road for unknown reasons and hit the motorcycle driven by
Hoffer. The SUV then spun around and was broadsided by the Russells'
bike, he said in a statement.
Conner would not comment on the relationships among the victims.
Washington Township police released no further information about the
accident on Sunday.
Township Supervisor Elaine Gladhill said she went to the scene because
of the high number of fatalities to support emergency workers. Grief
counselors were on hand, she said.
Gladhill described the scene as "horrific" in an interview with the AP.
She said it might have been the single accident with that many
fatalities in the township.

2007 Harley-Davidson V-Rod
Check out this 2007 Harley-Davidson V-Rod that we are shipping from Woodstock Harley-Davidson to San Jose Harley-Davidson
The Harley-Davidson VRSC (V-Twin Racing Street Custom) family of cruiser motorcycles was introduced in 2001 in a single model called the V-Rod. The V-Rod was developed by Harley-Davidson to compete against Japanese and American muscle bikes. The "V-Rod" made use of the Revolution engine, developed jointly with Porsche that, for the first time in Harley public production history, features overhead cams
and liquid cooling. The V-Rod is visually distinct from other
Harley-Davidson motorcycles. It can be easily identified by the
60-degree V-twin engine, the radiator and the hydroformed
frame members that support the round-topped air cleaner cover. A
distinct difference between the V-Rod and all other Harley production
motorcycles is the location of the fuel tank. The fuel tank on the V-Rod
is located underneath the seat, placing the rider on top of it, rather
than the usual frontal placement. The "tank" in this case is
simple dressing, hiding the frame. Loosely based on the VR-1000
superbike, it continues to be a platform around which Harley-Davidson
builds drag-racing competition machines. All VRSC models are produced at
Harley-Davidson's Vehicle and Powertrain Operations facility in Kansas
City, Missouri.

Harley-Davidson Recall on 2014 models!
Harley-Davidson is voluntarily recalling some 2014 motorcycle models because of a possible safety issue.
The Milwaukee-based company says the recall of about 29,000 bikes includes a "Do Not Ride" notice to owners and a "Do Not Deliver" notice to dealers until the motorcycle is fixed.
Harley-Davidson says the hydraulic clutch system in some of the motorcycles might not disengage the clutch, making it hard to slow or stop.
Owners of affected motorcycles should arrange an inspection with an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer. The dealer will pick up, inspect and make the repairs at no cost.
The recalls affect Touring motorcycle models FLHTCU, FLHTK, FLHTP, FLHX, FLHXS, FLHTKSE and FLHRSE, plus Softail CVOs and Trikes, models FLHTCUTG, FXSBSE and FLSTNSE, built between May 3, 2013, and Oct. 14, 2013.
